Los Angeles Annual Meeting or Bust
The team at Manley Land Design is excited to attend the upcoming 2017 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Annual Meeting and EXPO in Los Angeles, California. The event will take place October 20-23 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
ASLA President Vaughn Rinner describes this year’s theme of “Common Ground” rather eloquently: “Landscape architects work every day to give form to common areas where people meet and interact, creating and celebrating community. Common ground includes the places where people congregate, but also the ideas and visions we share. It is both where and how people work together for the good of all. We need to be active advocates for our communities and for natural systems, leading in establishing places where different ideas meet and find common ground for positive change.”
All Manley Land Design employees and their spouses will be attending the meeting.
Here are just a few reasons why they’re really excited to go!
“I’m looking forward to getting ‘outside myself’ and my little everyday world to see a bigger picture of landscape architecture. I think that the meeting will reenergize my passion for landscape architecture as our chosen profession. In addition to the opportunity to connect with colleagues, I’m excited to see another great U.S. city from a landscape architect’s perspective.” – Steve Manley
“I think it’s going to be a fun learning experience. It’s always great to see what else is out there, learn about different facets of landscape architecture, and talk to other landscape architects about what they’re doing. I’m also going to obtain continuing education credits to maintain my licenses!” – Aaron Neitzke
“It’s my first time attending the annual meeting, and I’m looking forward to hearing about projects going on in other areas. I think it’s really great that the meetings are held in different cities each year.” – Lucy Griner
“This trip is a great opportunity for team building within the office. I’m excited to feel rejuvenated and inspired about what the profession is doing for landscape architecture. I also enjoy the local landscape architect-led tours, seeing the newest products at the EXPO, and greeting old friends and making new ones. It’s always fun to wine and dine with colleagues and just have some fun!” – Terri Manley
“I always like to learn more about what Aaron does. Before I met him, I didn’t even know the field of landscape architecture existed. Going to these industry events helps me understand better what he’s talking about when he’s explaining the things that happen at work. I also like learning about the new ways landscape architecture is having a positive impact on the environment. Plus, the team is fun to hang out with!” – Courtney Neitzke (Aaron’s wife)
“I’m staying home this time. Los Angeles sounds great, but it’s a bit too far for me to travel. I’m sure I would have enjoyed sniffing and greeting everyone. But, I look forward to hearing all of the great stories when my humans return!” – Calvin
